Flipflops in the Rain

all those things that aren’t perfect yet.

it’s pretty much february. that blows my mind. how has the first month of twenty-ten disappeared already?!

i’m making progress on bettering myself and making this MY year. it’s funny though — while i’m making improvements in certain areas of my life, i’m falling HARD off the wagon in others. balance, i’ve always lacked it.

i don’t want to jinx myself by listing the things i’ve done well in the past few weeks, so instead, i’ll do what i do best — berate myself for not being perfect:

perfect: never gonna happen. get over yourself, flippy.

gym: i miss you. it’s not you, it’s me. i’m lazy/busy. that might seem counterintuitive, but i assure you, it’s not. it’s just my life.

food: i spend way too much on food that’s way too bad for me. must. start. fast-food fast. AGAIN. must also start cooking because deep down, i know i can.

dentist: get one. immediately. book an appointment shortly after.

conan: stop crying about the whole nbc debacle (it’s been three weeks, after all) and start following coco’s words of wisdom. i’m becoming far too cynical and knowing he would be disappointed in me is kind of a tragedy.

writing: write more. write every day. write online. write in a journal. just write.

money: we’re getting there. slowly but surely, we’re getting there. eventually, we’ll be there.

travel: take the time and just go.

california plus vacation equals happiness

the grass is greener in california. the sky is bluer, the sun is brighter, the mac and cheese is cheesier, the people are happier, the activities are morer (copyright: me*). all i really need to say is — my vacation was fabulous, and i want to go back.

in no particular order, this is what i did:
spent time with some of my favorite college friends.
reminisced a LOT with said college friends.
ate sushi.
almost got kicked out of a bar for taking my shoes off.
went to conan and chelsea.
rewatched and tried to find myself on both conan and chelsea.
drank beer.
drank wine.
drank sake.
drank champagne.
drank tequila. at disneyland.
got lost looking for an entrance to a secret in-n-out.
finally ate in-n-out (animal style, with a neopolitan shake**)
drove in tons of LA traffic.
navigated LA traffic without a map.
almost left my mom on the side of an LA freeway because she was driving me crazy.
took a ferry to coronodo island.
saw the grey’s anatomy set.
went to a 21-and-older movie theater and drank blue moon.
didn’t exercise.
didn’t think about work.
there’s more.
but i think this list is too long.
and no one even reads lists.

*actually, copyright urban dictionary. who knew?
** you are welcome.

california will be a sight for these weary eyes…

yeah, yeah, i hate october. wah, wah, wah.

but this year, i’ve been counting down the days because tomorrow… I’M GOING TO CALIFORNIA!!

hello, sunshine, celebrities* and cool ocean breeze. mommy’s missed you.

*i’ll be in the audience for both chelsea lately and the tonight show with conan o’brien. and!!! kristen bell, my very favorite, will be a guest on conan one of the days i have tickets (Oct. 6, Maxie — watch it…)!!! it’s 50-50 whether i’ll be able to attend that day, but since i’m kind of a psycho celeb stalker**, i at least know she’ll be in town while i’m there…

**and by stalker, i mean, I’m not. please don’t get a restraining order. (because i know kristen and her agent totally read this.)

‘the girl who insisted on coming here’

i’m off to toronto for the next three days! although the 9-hour drive (one way!) makes my already overactive boredom sensors flare up up, i’m looking forward to seeing something new. since moving east, i’ve made a genuine effort to travel around the area and explore. in addition to the thrill i get from mini-adventures like this, it keeps the skin-crawliness to a minimum.

so anyway, i’m off on a road trip to canada with the boys who love to love and hate me. as you can see, we may kill each other within minutes… i haven’t been that far north since the dollar’s value dropped, so i’m thinkin’ we won’t be doing too much shopping. (to be completely honest, judgmental and stereotypical, though, their fashion senses aren’t exactly what you’d expect and i’m ok with not .) in fact, i’m not really sure what we’ll be doing, other than looking for landmarks i recognize from conan o’brien’s toronto stint.

hope everyone else has a fun, relaxing weekend planned!
